350-004 STURGEON, U.S. NUCLEAR SUBMARINE

Sturgeon is the name of a class of American nuclear fighter submarines (ANNs). Units of this type were built in the years 1967-1975. In total, 37 units of this type were created. The Sturgeon-class ship was 89-92 m long, 9.7 m wide, and had a displacement of approximately 4,800-4,900 tons. The maximum underwater speed is around 26-27 knots. The ship had four 533 mm torpedo tubes. The Sturgeon-class ships were developed and put into production as a modernization and extension of the Permit / Tresher class. Compared to their predecessors, they differed in several important elements. Externally, they had a much larger and taller kiosk. In addition, the structure of the ships was strengthened so that they could operate in the waters covered with ice pack. They were also bigger than their predecessors. They could also carry a wider range of torpedoes, rockets and rocket-torpedoes. The last ships in the series also improved the ability to detect enemy submarines and modernized electronic equipment. Sturgeon-class ships were also better soundproofed than Permit-class ships. In the course of production, from 1971, a hull extended by 9 meters was used. By 2004, the Sturgeon-class ships were decommissioned.
