Triton-1M is the name of a class of Soviet miniature diesel-electric submarines. The first unit of this type was launched in 1969 or 1970. Probably 32 ships of this type were built in total. The vessel reached speeds of up to 6 knots under water. Design work on a new Soviet miniature submarine started in 1968 and shortly thereafter led to the creation of a new vehicle. The Triton-1M was able to reach a submersion depth of 40 meters, with an operating depth of 32 meters. The unit could lie on the bottom for 10 days and then be started without any problems. It was equipped with a magnetic compass, radio and MAR-3 sonar. Units of this type could be transported by both surface and underwater units. The Triton-1M was designed and built primarily for various types of special missions that require a high degree of stealth.
