Project 628 is the designation of a prototype Soviet diesel-electric submarine from the post-war period. The length of the ship was about 98 meters and a width of about 7.4 meters. The maximum underwater speed was 9-10 knots. The ship's crew consisted of about 70 people. Project 628 was essentially a modernization of the K-class, Soviet submarines from World War II, the first of which entered service in 1939. The main modernization of Project 628 consisted in adding a large superstructure at the rear of the conning tower to store and operate a single 10XN Wolna tactical missile. Research work was carried out in the years 1952-1953, but the 10XN Wolna missile did not finally enter the equipment of the Soviet Navy, and further work on it was discontinued. Thus, only one ship, Project 628, was built.
