The FV 214 Conqueror was a British Main Battle Tank, sometimes classified as heavy, from the Cold War period. The first prototypes of the vehicle were created in the early 1950s, and serial production continued in 1955-1959, ending with the production of 185 examples. Conqueror was powered by an engine Rolls-Royce Meteor M120 with 810 HP . The vehicle is armed with a single 120mm L-1 cannon and two 7.62mm machine guns. Conqueror was created as a British response to the Soviet heavy tanks of the IS family (e.g. IS-3 or IS-4). In order to fight the Soviet vehicles on an equal footing, it received very strong armor at the front of the hull and turret, and a powerful - by British standards - 120 mm gun. Throughout their service (from 1955 to 1966), tanks of this type were stationed only in West Germany, as part of the so-called British Army of the Rhine. The downsides of the Conqueror include the relatively low mobility and the small number of shells it takes to the vehicle. On the basis of this tank, technical support vehicles were also created - the FV 222 Conqueror ARV Mk. I and II. Conqueror tanks have never been exported and have not taken part in hostilities.
