The Yankee Sidecar-class ship (or Project 667M) was an experimental Soviet nuclear-powered submarine carrying cruise missiles (SSGN). The unit was approx. 150 mm long and 12 m wide, with an underwater displacement of approx. 13,650 tons. The armament consisted of 12 SS-NX-24 cruise missiles and probably 6 bow 533 mm torpedo tubes. The Project 667M submarines were created as a result of the conversion of a single unit of the Yankee I type (exactly the K-420 ship launched in 1970). The conversion involved a significant extension of the hull and the adaptation of the ship to firing prototype SS-NX-24 missiles. It can be assumed that the unit received a completely new fire control system, communication and navigation equipment. The reconstruction was probably completed in 1983, and later it implemented a program of relatively intensive sea tests. It was decommissioned at the turn of the 1980s and 1990s.
