Astute is the name of a class of British nuclear fighter submarines (ANNs). Units of this type have been built since 2001. In total, seven units of this type have been built or planned. The Astute-class ship is 97 m long, 11.3 m wide, and has a displacement of approximately 7,400-7,800 tons. The maximum underwater speed is approx. 29-30 knots. The ships of this type are equipped with six 533 mm torpedo tubes. The Astute-class ships were developed and put into production to replace the Trafalgar-class ships in the RoyaL Navy. The new ships differ significantly from their predecessors. First of all, they are significantly larger than them - both in terms of length and underwater displacement. They also have a larger number of torpedo tubes and can carry a larger supply of torpedoes, missiles or rocket-torpedoes. They were also more suited to attacking land targets than the Trafalgar-class ships. Certainly, they also received richer and more modern electronic equipment and - probably - they are even better soundproofed than their predecessors. It is estimated that the cost of a single ship of this class according to 2015 prices are over £ 1.4 billion.
