The Oberon-class units were British classic diesel-electric fighter submarines that were built and launched between 1959 and 1967. In total, 13 ships of this class were built for the Royal Navy and 14 for export. A single unit of this type was 88.5 m long and 8.1 m wide, with an underwater displacement of approx. 2,450 tons. The maximum underwater speed was up to 17 knots. The armament consisted of 6 bow and 2 stern 533 mm torpedo tubes, with a torpedo reserve of 14. The Oberon-class submarines were developed as an evolutionary development of Porpoise-class units. Compared to their predecessors, they were enlarged, received more modern electronic equipment, as well as a significantly changed kiosk. A characteristic feature of the Oberon-class ships was also the sonar located in a pear in the upper part of the bow. It is also noteworthy that for many years this type of unit has been considered the best silenced classic-propelled submarines in the world! Undoubtedly, they were very successful submarines with high combat value. It was withdrawn from the line in the Royal Navy only at the turn of the 1980s and 1990s.
