Kronborg was a Danish classic diesel-electric fighter submarine, which was launched in April 1978 and served under the Danish flag from 2001 to 2005. It was 44 m long and 5.7 m wide, and the underwater displacement was 1,150 tons. The maximum underwater speed was up to 24-25 knots. The armament consisted of 6 533 mm torpedo tubes and 2 400 mm torpedo tubes. Kronborg was originally a Swedish submarine called HSwMS Näcken, which was the leading type unit of the same name - ie Näcken. Units of this class were developed for the needs of the Swedish Navy (hereinafter: MW) in the 1970s, in order to supplement and eventually replace the Sjöormen class ships in the line. They had the same type of teardrop-shaped hull (although with some changes!) And an "X" -shaped aft tail, however, they were reduced, their crew was reduced, and at the same time performance was improved - especially maximum underwater speed. What's more, the Näcken class also received heavier torpedo armament, an innovative for its time engine control system and a completely new underwater shooting control system. In 1987-1988 HSwMS Näcken (later Kronborg) was rebuilt. The changes consisted mainly in extending the fuselage by 8 meters and using the then prototype AIP (Air Independent Propulsion) propulsion. In 2001-2005, the ship, under the name Kronborg, was leased by the Danish Navy. It can be assumed that the Danes were primarily about testing and checking in the service of the AIP drive. In 2005, the unit was returned to MW of Sweden, and in 2016 it was scrapped.
