Foxtrot were Soviet diesel-electric fighter submarines (SS), which were built in the period 1957-1983 at the Sudomech shipyard in the city of Leningrad (today's St. Petersburg), and later - after absorbing the Sudomech shipyard - at the Admiralty shipyard including the city itself. It is estimated that from 66 to 75 units of this class were created, of which 58 to 66 for the use of the Soviet Navy. The length of the Foxtrot-class ship is 91.5 m, width is 7.5 m, and the underwater displacement reaches 2,400 tons. The maximum underwater speed is approximately 15.5-16 knots. The main armament of units of this class were 10 533 mm torpedo tubes. The ships of the Foxtrot class (Project 641) were constructed to replace Zulu-class ships. Compared to their predecessors, the new Soviet submarines were quieter, had significantly stronger torpedo armament and more modern electronic equipment. The Foxtrot-class ships also had a long range and were fully ocean-going ships. Units of this type turned out to be useful ships with good overall combat capabilities. They were operated by the fleets of the USSR, India, North Korea, Libya, Ukraine (after 1992) and Poland, which purchased two units of this type. In our navy, they served under the names ORP Wilk and ORP Dzik.
