Units of type Näcken were Swedish classic diesel-electric fighter submarines that were launched in 1978-1979. A single ship of this type was 44 meters long and 5.7 meters wide, and the underwater displacement was 1,150 tons. The maximum underwater speed reached 24-25 knots, while the depth of the draft was determined at 150 m. The armament consisted of 6 533 mm torpedo tubes and 2 400 mm tubes. Units of type Näcken were developed for the needs of the Swedish Navy (hereinafter: MW) in the 1970s in order to supplement and eventually replace the Sjöormen-class ships in the line. They had the same type of teardrop-shaped hull (although with some changes!) And an "X" -shaped aft tail, however, they were reduced, their crew was reduced, and at the same time performance was improved - especially maximum underwater speed. What's more, the Näcken class also received heavier torpedo armament, an innovative for its time engine control system and a completely new underwater shooting control system. Finally, a very successful class of units was created, perfect for operating in the Baltic Sea. In total, 3 Näcken-class ships were built, 2 of which were scrapped in 2015-2016, and one is on display at the Swedish Naval Museum (Swedish Marinmus) in Karlskrona.
