TR-1700 type units is a western class German classic fighter submarines (diesel-electric), which were built for export markets. The first unit of this class entered service in 1984, and out of 6 planned, only 2 ships were built. A single unit of this type was 66 m long and 7.3 m wide, and the underwater displacement was about 2,250 tons. The maximum underwater speed was up to 25 knots. The armament, on the other hand, consisted of 6 533 mm torpedo tubes, with a torpedo reserve of 16. Submarines type TR-1700 were built in a shipyard Nordseewerke (NSWE) based in Emden for the Navy (hereinafter: MW) of Argentina. Units of this type were the largest submarines built in Germany after World War II. When creating their project, it was planned from the very beginning to build ocean-going ships with as much autonomy as possible and with strong torpedo armament. Interestingly, the design was not a simple evolution from the highly successful Type 209, but was developed from the ground up. At the time of entry into service, the TR-1700 submarines were among the most modern class-propelled submarines, and are still considered to be one of the fastest. One of the ships of this class built was lost by the Argentine Navy in 2017, and the second one was planned to be repaired in 2020.
