The Yankee II-class ship (or Project 667AM) was a Soviet nuclear-powered submarine carrying nuclear ballistic missiles (SSBN). The unit was 130 or 132 m long and 12 m wide, with an underwater displacement of approx. 9,600 tons. The maximum underwater speed was up to 27 knots. The armament consisted of 12 SS-N-17 ballistic missile launchers and 6 bow 533 mm torpedo tubes. The Yankee II class ship was created as a result of the conversion of a single Yankee I unit (the K-140 ship launched in 1967) and its adaptation to firing SS-N-17 ballistic missiles. As this rocket was wider and slightly higher than the SS-N-6 missiles (the main armament of Yankee I units), the number of missiles taken decreased from 16 to 12. Probably the ship also received a significantly changed fire control and communication system. It is difficult to say unequivocally whether it entered the line or was used only for testing and experimental purposes. However, it was almost certainly decommissioned in 1990.
