The Yankee Notch-class ships (or Project 667AT) were Soviet nuclear-powered submarines carrying cruise missiles (SSGN). The units were approximately 142 meters long and 12 meters wide, with an underwater displacement of approximately 11,500 tons. The armament consisted of the SS-N-21 cruise missile launcher and probably 6 bow 533 mm torpedo tubes. It is not certain whether the units were also fitted with 650 mm torpedo tubes. The Project 667AT submarines were created as a result of the conversion of 4 Yankee I type units. This type of submarine was first sighted in 1983. Compared to their predecessors, the Yankee Notch ships were significantly lengthened, their underwater displacement increased and, almost certainly, the main armament compartment was significantly changed, which, instead of the SS-N-6 ballistic missiles, was adapted to launching the SS-N-maneuvering missiles. 21, which could carry nuclear warheads with a power of up to 200 kT. They were dedicated primarily to destroying land targets. Thus, Yankee Notch ships could also play the role of SSBN ships. It is assumed that in relation to the Yankee I ships, they received much more modern electronic equipment, especially fire control and communication systems.
