The Vietnam War (1964 / 1965-1975) is a conflict fought between the government of South Vietnam, supported very intensively (economically, politically, militarily) by the United States, and North Vietnam, supported by the USSR and the PRC. On the American side, the basic land component, considering the extremely difficult terrain of Vietnam, was the infantry and airmobile troops. However - surprisingly - in the course of this armed conflict, tanks also played a role, which turned out to be very useful in covering convoys on beaten roads, but also in securing communication routes or searching through non-jungle terrain. The basic tanks used in Vietnam were: the M41 Walker Bulldog (which was quickly used by the South Vietnamese army), the M551 Sheridan and the M48 Patton in various versions (mainly A 3). Most often, the tanks were formed into armored companies, the post of which in 1966 included a command unit with two M48A3s, an M113A1 armored carrier, an M88 technical support vehicle and additional trucks, and three armored platoons, each of which was divided into two sections: heavy with 3 M48A3 tanks and a light one with two M48A3 or M551 Sheridan tanks.
