R-55 SARGEANT 79TH CAMERON HIGHLANDERS, NAPOLEONIC WARS

The 79th (The Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders) Regiment of Foot is a British infantry regiment that was established in 1793 and functioned as an independent unit until 1961. The unit was formed on the initiative of Sir Alan Cameron, and the regiment began its combat route with an unsuccessful operation in the Netherlands in 1794. The unit also took part in the Battle of Alkmar in 1799. Later, he was sent to Egypt, where he arrived in 1801. From 1808, the unit served in the area of Iberian, where she took part in many battles - including at Corunna in 1809 and in the struggle at Badajoz in 1812. At the time of Napoleon's abdication in 1814, the unit was transferred to Ireland, but after the French emperor fled Elba, it was quickly transferred to Belgium, ending its participation in the Napoleonic wars with the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. Later, the unit took part in many armed conflicts and battles, including the Anglo-Egyptian struggles in 1882 or the Battle of Omdurman in 1898, but mainly in both world wars. The unit remained independent until 1961.
