The Convair 440 Metropolitan (or Convair CV-440) was an American airliner that was first flown in 1955. In the basic version, the machine was approx. 23 m long with a wingspan of approx. 28 m. The drive was provided by 2 Pratt and Whitney R-2800-CA3 Double Wasp engines with a capacity of 2400 KM each. The top speed was around 500 km / h. The machine was able to carry up to 52 passengers. Convair 440 Metropolitan was created as an evolutionary development of the CV-340 aircraft. Compared to its predecessor, it had significantly improved soundproofing of the passenger compartment, better cruising speed and the possibility of increasing the number of seats for passengers. The maximum take-off weight has also been increased. There was also an option to mount a weather radar in the front of the hull. The plane was operated by such airlines as, for example: Swissair, Lufthansa, SAS and Finnair.
