The Maybach HL230 was a German WWII internal combustion tank engine that used gasoline as fuel. The engine weight in dry configuration was 120 kilograms, and the displacement - 23.1 liters. The maximum torque reached 1,850 Nm. The HL230 engine was developed at Maybach Motorenbau as a specific development version of the HL210 engine. Compared to its predecessor, the new engine had an increased capacity (21.4 to 23.1 liters), and its block was made of cast iron, not aluminum - as in the HL210. Thanks to this, the maximum power of the engine reached 690-700 HP, but the typical useful power oscillated around 590-600 HP. It is estimated that during World War II, about 9,000 engines of this type were created, and Maybach, Auto Union and Daimler-Benz plants were responsible for their production. The engine was produced in two main versions: HL230 P30 and HL230 P45. It served as a power unit for vehicles such as the PzKpfw VI Tiger, PzKpfw V Panther or PzKpfw VI Tiger II tanks, as well as the Jagdpanther tank destroyer.
