USATC S160 (another designation: Tr203) is a series of steam locomotives (steam locomotives), which were produced in the years 1942-1945, among others at the ALCO (American Locomotive Company) plants in the United States. The service weight of a single locomotive was 133.6 tons, and its length with the tender was 18.1 m. The diameter of the driving wheels was 1450 mm, with the axis system 1-4-0. In total, more than 4,500 steam locomotives of this type were built. The USATC S160 steam locomotives were designed for the needs of the US Army fighting in Europe during World War II and from the very beginning they were adapted to European railway standards. The first transports of these locomotives to Great Britain took place in 1943, and later - to France - in 1944. After 1945, the US was completely unnecessary for the locomotives and, through the UNRAA organization, decided to hand them over to the destroyed European countries, including Poland, where they received the designation Tr203. Many of the locomotives that came to our country were in terrible condition, but the ones that were fit for use had a lot of pulling power and high, technical quality of workmanship. They remained in PKP until the end of the 1970s.
