The sIG 33 (German: schweres Infanterie Geschutz 33) is a German 150mm towed heavy infantry gun from the Second World War. The first prototypes of the guns were created in 1927, and in the years 1936-1945 serial production continued, ending with the production of about 4,200 examples of this weapon. The maximum range was 4,700 m, and the initial velocity of the projectile - 240 m / s. sIG 33 was created as a result of the German experience from the First World War, which clearly showed that in the battle of infantry it is extremely important to support it by own accompanying artillery. Therefore - after a long discussion in the professional press - the German army decided to create a 150 mm caliber gun (precisely the SIG 33), which was to be a cannon accompanying the infantry regiments and directly subordinate to them. a powerful firefighting tool. While the concept itself was innovative, the SIG 33 gun was traditional in design - what's more, it turned out to be very heavy and for a long time it was aimed at reducing its weight in order to increase its maneuverability. The sIG 33 cannon has also become the basic armament of such vehicles as, for example, the Sturmpanzer II, the Sturmpanzer IV Brummbar or the Grille. The German army used the SIG 33 throughout the entire period of World War II.
