The S-51 was a Soviet submarine from the Second World War. The unit was commissioned in November 1941. The total length of the ship at the time of launching was approx. 78 m, width approx. 6.4 m, and the draft - approx. 4 meters. The maximum underwater speed was up to 9.5 knots. The torpedo armament consisted of six 533 mm tubes - four in the bow and two in the stern. In addition, the ship had a single 100mm cannon and a 45mm cannon. The S-51 belonged to the "S" class of submarines, which was unofficially called Staliniec. This class was created in cooperation with Germany, and its plans were developed in the early 1930s. The Soviet side aimed at introducing S-type units to obtain submarines capable of deep-sea operations, and not limited only to the Baltic and Black Seas. Thus, efforts were made to acquire units with greater abilities than the Szczuka-type ships. Ultimately, a fairly successful class of ships emerged, sometimes considered the best of the Soviet submarine types of World War II. On the other hand, the presented S-51 took an active part in this armed conflict and happily survived to its end. It was decommissioned in 1954 and converted into a monument ship in 1973.
