Agosta was a French submarine belonging to the class of units of the same name. The Agosta-class submarines are diesel-electric (SS) fighter ships that were built between 1974 and 1984. In total, ten units of this class were created. The length of the Agosta-class ship used by the Marine Nationale is 67 m, width 6 m, and the underwater displacement reaches approximately 1,800 tons. The maximum underwater speed is 17.5 knots! The main armament of units of this class are four 550 mm torpedo tubes. The Agosta-class ships were developed in connection with the French navy's desire to acquire large-scale vessels capable of truly ocean-going operations, but also capable of replacing the Narval class and supplementing the Daphne-class units. They also put emphasis on the shape of the hull, drawing on the experience of the American Albacore-class ships, as well as automation of operations as far as possible and the use of extensive electronic equipment. Successful units were finally created, capable of reaching 250-300 meters of maximum draft, which also entered service in the fleets of Spain and Pakistan. By 2001, the Agosta ships were decommissioned from the Marine Nationale and are in reserve.
