The AEC Routemaster is a British double-decker city bus that was first presented to the public in 1954. Its production started in the same year and continued in 1968. Approximately 2,870 buses of this type were built in its course. The bus was powered by one of three engines with a displacement of 9.6, 9.8 or 11.3 liters. Its total length was 9.14 meters and a width of 2.44 meters. The vehicle was able to take up to 72 passengers. The Routemaster model was developed and put into production for London communications by the Associated Equpipment Company (AEC) and Park Royal Vehicles. The first prototypes and demonstrations of the new bus took place in 1954, but the vehicle made its first London tour in 1956. The Routemaster model completed and later replaced the Regent III RT bus in the streets of London. Externally, both vehicles were similar to each other, with the Routemaster being longer and slightly wider. It also provided better passenger flow through an additional pair of doors. It was also much more modern in terms of the applied technical solutions. The vehicle very quickly became one of the symbols and icon of the capital of Great Britain. The AEC Routemaster bus was used on city lines until 2005.
