The Roter Sand lighthouse was built in 1885 and was put into operation in the same year. The lighthouse is located in the North Sea - northeast of Wangerooge near the mouth of the Weser River. This lighthouse was the first in Europe to be constructed on the ocean floor, which made it a symbol of technological progress at the end of the 19th century. The lighthouse tower is 30.7 meters high (including the foundation - 52.5 meters) and its range of white light is 9 nautical miles (NM), red - 7 NM, and green - 6 NM. The foundation of the lighthouse tower has a cylindrical shape and in the course of the outflow rises about 1.5-2 meters above the water level. A warehouse and social rooms for the lighthouse keeper were located in the tower. The architecture of the lighthouse is varied with three bay windows placed on them. The Roter Sand lighthouse was exclusive in 1986 and is now a cultural monument. In 2010, she was awarded the title of the Historic Symbol of the Art of Engineering.
