Rotes Kliff Lighthouse was built in 1913 and was put into operation in the same year. The lighthouse is located on the North Sea island of Sylt, near Kampen. The lighthouse was built as an adjunct to the main Kampen lighthouse and warned of the nearby sandy shoal. The lighthouse tower is 13 meters high, but thanks to its foundation on a small hill, it rises about 23 meters above sea level. The range of its white light is 21 nautical miles (NM), or approx. 39 kilometers! The lighthouse was electrified in 1936 and was deactivated only in 1994. It currently serves as a navigation landmark, but is not used for its original purpose. In 1993, the building was restored, and at present it is treated as a cultural monument.
