Teruzuki (DD-116) is a modern Japanese missile destroyer. The keel for this unit was laid in 2010, and the launch took place in September 2011. The unit was accepted into service with the Japanese Naval Self-Defense Forces in 2013. The total length of the vessel at the time of launching was 150.5 meters and a width of 18.3 meters. Full displacement is around 6,800 tons, and maximum speed is up to 30 knots. The deck armament consists of a single 127 mm naval cannon, 8 Type 90 launchers, a single 32-rail Mark 41 launcher, and two 20 mm Vulcan Phalanx sets. The ship may operate a single on-board helicopter. Teruzuki (DD-116) is the second destroyer in the Akizuki class with a total of 4 ships. Units of this class are designed as ocean-going units, intended to cooperate in a ship complex with the Hyuga and Izumo class units. They are dedicated to provide them, in particular, with anti-aircraft cover, but also anti-water cover. It is very often assumed that the Akizuki-class destroyers are in fact a slightly enlarged and modernized Takanami class. The main differences between class protection units are the propulsion, electronic equipment and the use of the ATECS battlefield management system on Akizuki destroyers.
