Volkswagen Polo is a German passenger car with the so-called class of city cars, which was first presented to the general public in 1975. Its production started the same year and is still going on. It has been concentrated in several cities around the world, including Wolfsburg and Zwickau in Germany, Buenos Aires in Argentina and Poznań. The Polo model was developed and put into production in order to expand the commercial offer of the Volkswagen concern, as well as to gain the largest possible segment of the city car market. The 1st generation Polo cars were relatively light, they were also powered by engines with a capacity of 0.9 to 1.3 liters and a maximum power of 40-55 HP. They were offered primarily in the version of 3-door hatchbacks. They achieved some market success (around 500,000 copies of this car were produced in the period 1975-1979), and the VW concern decided to develop the structure. In total, six generations of VW Polo were produced in the course of production, the last of which was presented in 2017 at the Frankfurt Motor Show and was based on a completely new floor plate. Tweaked versions of VW Polo have also taken part in numerous races and car rallies.
