The Boeing 727 was a medium-range, three-engine, narrow-body, low-wing, American-made low-wing passenger jet. The drive was provided by three Pratt and Whitney JT8D engines. The flight of the prototype took place in 1963, and the serial production of the civilian version was carried out in the period 1963-1984. More than 1,830 Boeing 727s were produced in the course of the project. The aircraft of this type was created as a response of the Boeing concern to the demand reported by American airlines for a new medium-range aircraft. When designing the Boeing 727, great emphasis was placed on flight safety, low operating costs and good performance. In addition, a very durable undercarriage was provided, which allowed it to operate from runways with inferior surface. The machine turned out to be successful and was the most popular passenger plane of the 1960s! Two main versions were created in the course of serial production: Boeing 727-100 and Boeing 727-200. The first was the basic serial version that could also be used as a transport machine. The second one has been extended by 6 meters, and the ergonomics of the machine has also been improved. As a result, the range and the permissible payload of the aircraft increased.
