Ilyushin Ił-18 was a Soviet low-wing four-engine passenger plane from the Cold War period. The drive was provided by four turboprop engines Ivchenko AI-20M with 4,250 hp each. The flight of the prototype took place in 1957, and serial production continued in 1959-1978. The machine had a cruising speed of 650 km / h with a maximum range of 6,500 kilometers. Ilyushin Il-18 was developed to complement the passenger versions of the Il-14 aircraft. It turned out to be a very successful machine with many advantages. First of all, for the 1960s and 1970s, it was able to take many passengers on board (up to 120 people), long flight range, high reliability, high lifting capacity. It also provided decent travel comfort for passengers. On the basis of the Ił-18 aircraft, specialized versions were also created, including: Ił-20 (military reconnaissance aircraft) or Ił-24N (version intended for operations in the Arctic and marking sea routes). Airplanes of this type are used by many countries, including Poland. In 2015, the Il-18 aircraft were in service with the armed forces of the Russian Federation and North Korea.
