Germany can be considered a kind of homeland of modern field kitchen, because it was in this country in 1892. Karl Rudolf Wissler constructed such a device for the first time. It entered service very quickly in the army of imperial Germany, and the soldiers called it "Gulaschkanone", that is, a goulash cannon. Already during World War I, German field kitchens changed, mainly due to the increase in the volume of food transported. The German army entered the next World War using several types of field kitchens, which were divided into large and small field kitchens (German: Grosse Feldküche and Kleine Feldküche). The first category included mainly field cookers Hf.11 and Hf.13, which remembered the times of World War I. Both models were very similar to each other and their essence differed only in details. The main cauldron for preparing meals had a capacity of 200 liters, and the one intended for beverages (most often coffee) - 90 liters. On the other hand, the models Hf.12 and Hf.14 can be included in small kitchens. In their case, the main boiler had a capacity of 125 liters, and the one for drinks - 60 liters. It is worth adding that most often German field kitchens had horse traction and were transported by motor vehicles as an exception rather than the rule.
