The MO-120-RT-61 is a French, trailed 120mm mortar from the post-war and the present day. The weapon is 301 cm long and 193 cm wide. Its weight in the marching position is 582 kilograms. The maximum range when firing classic high-explosive ammunition reaches 8.2 kilometers. MO-120-RT-61 was developed and put into production by the company Thomson-Brandt Armements to replace the MO-120 AM-50 mortar in French Army units in the 1960s. The weapon has a single pair of road wheels and rests on a triangular stop plate in the combat position. In the French army, the VAB 4x4 is most often used to tow this heavy mortar. The mortar can fire three basic types of missiles: PR-14 (classic high-explosive), PRPA (high-explosive shell with additional rocket propulsion of greater range) and illuminating ammunition. MO-120-RT-61 was used in combat, e.g. during the First Gulf War (1990-1991) or during operations in Afghanistan (from 2003). It was also exported to many countries, including Belgium, Brazil, Israel, Japan and Italy.
