Ty23 is a series of Polish steam locomotives (steam locomotives), which were produced in the period 1923-1934. Initially, production took place abroad (e.g. in Cockerill plants in Belgium), and later it was moved to Poland, to plants in Warsaw, Chrzanów and Poznań. The service weight of a single locomotive without tender was 95 tons, and its length with tender was 20.07 m. The locomotive, in White's notation, had a 1-5-0 axis system. A total of 612 locomotives of this type were built. The Ty23 steam locomotive was designed by the Polish engineer Wacław Łopuszyński, and the German company BMAG participated in the preparation of the final technical documentation. Due to the lack of production capacity of Polish plants, the first production batches were established abroad until 1926. Later, the production of Ty23 locomotives was transferred to the country. The said locomotive had decent performance and became the most important, heavy steam locomotive dedicated to freight depots on the Polish railroad before 1939. In 1937, locomotives of this type began to be replaced by Ty37 locomotives. During World War II, a large number of Ty23 was operated by the Germans.
