The Tortoise A-39 was a British experimental WWII super heavy tank. Only six prototypes of the car were built in 1944. Tortoise was powered by a motor Rolls-Royce Meteor V12 with 600 hp . The vehicle is armed with a single QF 32-pdr cannon. 94 mm caliber mounted in the casemate and 3 Besa 7.92 mm machine guns. The Tortoise was developed as a tank designed to break through heavily fortified enemy positions, primarily to break the position of the Siegfried Line in western Germany. Thus, unlike other heavy and super-heavy tanks of the Second World War, it was not intended to be confronted with other enemy vehicles, but with its fortifications. Nevertheless, the Tortoise got very strong armor, reaching 228mm on the front end and a powerful 94mm gun. The disadvantages include a very high weight - as much as 79 tons! - and a very low vehicle top speed of 19 km / h. The concept of the vehicle itself also proved to be inaccurate and eventually the Tortoise never entered mass production.
