Whiskey (another designation: project 613) is the name of a class of Soviet diesel-electric fighter submarines from the Cold War period. Units of this type were built in the years 1950-1958 in the USSR. The PRC also started producing under license. In total, as many as 240 ships of this type were built. Whiskey-class units were 76 m long, 6.6 m wide, and the actual underwater displacement was - 1,346 tons. The maximum speed of the ship under water was up to 13.6 knots. The main armament at the time of the launch was six 533 mm torpedo tubes. Artillery armament (e.g. 57 mm cannons) was also mounted on the winders, but after 1956 it was systematically dismantled. Whiskey-class submarines were created as a far-reaching development of the Soviet S-class ship with the use of advanced German technological solutions from class XXI U-boats. From its German predecessor, the Whiskey class took over snorkels, solutions related to achieving considerable - for those times - underwater speeds or the shape of a light hull. However, they were dedicated to activities in shallower and smaller water bodies, which made them smaller than the German 21st class and less autonomous, calculated for about 30 days. By Soviet standards, however, the Whiskey-class ships had extensive radio-electronic equipment. Serial production took place in the USSR mainly in the shipyards in Gorky, Leningrad and Komsomolsk-on-Amur. In the Soviet fleet, most ships of this type were decommissioned by 1977.
