Pafawag 5B / 6B (another designation EN 57) is a series of standard-gauge, low-perone electric multiple units (EZT for short), produced in the years 1962-1993 at the Pafawag plant in Wrocław. The service weight of this rail vehicle is 126.5 tons, with a total length of 64.97 m and a width of 2.88 meters. The diameter of the wheels is: rolling wheels 940 mm, and driving wheels 1000 mm. Design work on the future series of EZT EN 57 lasted in the years 1959-1961, and the main part of the technical documentation was carried out by the Central Design Office of the Rolling Stock Industry in Poznań (now: OBRPS). The new EMU was to be dedicated primarily to regional, short- and medium-distance transport. Simultaneously with the work on EN 57, the high-floor electric multiple unit marked as EW 55 was also developed, which became a kind of progenitor for EN 57. About 1410 of these rail vehicles were produced in the course of production, of which only 40 were exported. It is often assumed that the EMU EN 57 is the longest-produced rail vehicle in the world!
