The Douglas AD-5 Skyraider was an American anti-submarine anti-submarine (ZOP) multi-role low-wing, metal-structure, post-war aircraft. The flight of the prototype took place in August 1951, and series production began shortly after. During its course, approximately 720 aircraft of this type were created. The on-board armament - in the basic version - consisted of four 20 mm AN / M3 cannons. Douglas AD-5 Skyraider was created as a far-reaching development of the A-1 Skyraider and is sometimes counted as one of its development versions. The AD-5 was primarily developed as an on-board anti-submarine aircraft. The task defined in this way led to changes in the design of the A-1, which primarily affected the crew cabin, which was completely changed. Now the pilot and navigator were sitting side by side, not one behind the other. The cabin cover has also been changed. The hull is also lengthened and widened, strengthening it in the middle. It also did not have side aerodynamic brakes. It is worth adding that from 1962 AD-5 aircraft were renamed A-1E. Based on the basic version marked as AD-5 / A-1E, several specialized variants were created, for example: AD-5N / A-1G (night attack aircraft), AD-5Q / EA-1F (radio-electronic warfare aircraft) or AD- 5W / EA-1E (early warning version).
