The German air force also introduced many successful aircraft in the years 1914-1918, including the great Fokker Dr.I or Gotha G.IV or GV fighter, but also such unusual designs as the Zeppelin-Staaken R.VI. The German air force was also able to undergo organizational changes during the Great War, as evidenced by the establishment of specialized fighter units (German: Jagdstaffeln) in 1916. Manfred von Richthofen, known as the red baron, was undoubtedly one of the greatest Luftstreitkräfte aces, but it is also worth remembering about such pilots as: Max Immelmann, Wilhelm Frank, Oswald Boelcke, Ernst Udet or later Luftwaffe commander Herman Göring.The Halberstadt CL.II is a German biplane, two-seater reconnaissance and fighter aircraft of a mixed, half-shell structure from the First World War. The drive was a Mercedes D.III engine with a power of up to 160 HP. The plane was designed by engineer Karol Theiss in 1916, and at the beginning of the next year a prototype flight took place. Halberstadt CL.II entered line service in August 1917. It turned out to be a very successful design, it was characterized by great maneuverability, good rate of climb and a wide field of fire. On the battlefield, the plane served in the Schlachtstaffelen units, which were responsible for direct support of the land forces. He performed very well in this role, an excellent example of which is his role in the German counteroffensive during the Battle of Cambrai (November 30, 1917). In total, 900 Halberstadt CL.II aircraft were built during the war.
