Vespa is the name of an Italian scooter model produced by Piaggio. The first prototypes were built in 1944, but serial production of this legendary scooter started two years later - in 1946 and continues to this day! The modern version (Vespa 946) is powered by a 125cc or 150cc engine, generating 11.3 or 13 HP. The first versions of Vespa scooters were designed by the Italian engineer Corradino D'Ascanio. The vehicles were characterized by a relatively small space for the driver's legs, but also a wide and quite large rear wheel arch. From the very beginning, it was assumed that the Vespa would be as cheap as possible, easy to manufacture and operate, and dedicated to a mass recipient. The scooter perfectly suited the needs of Italian consumers and gained enormous popularity in no time. This success also allowed Piaggio to make up for the great financial losses it suffered during World War II. The Vespa gained international popularity thanks to her participation in the comedy "Roman Holiday" starring Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck.
