Download Mirage Hobby PDF catalogueThe Tarantula-class small missile corvettes (project 1241) were designed in the early seventies by CMKB Almaz (USSR) to replace the Osa-class ships. During the development of the structure, the shape of the superstructures and deckhouses was changed in order to install new weapons and a new engine room was installed. Several development versions were created. The first is Tarantula I (type 1241R), it was widely exported to the Warsaw Pact countries, including Poland (we received 4 ships of this type in total). In 1981, the Tarantula II version (type 1241.1M) was developed, it was a slightly modified version - mainly for radar and navigation devices. Both of these versions had P-21 water-water missiles as the main weapon. It was replaced by the P-22 missile only in the mid-1980s, which also led to the creation of the Tarantul III class (type 1241.1MP). The main users of this type at the moment are Russia and India. Finally, the last version is the Tarantul IV (type 1241.7), which differs only in a different AA armament. (8 9M311 rocket launchers (NATO: SA-N-11).
