Grunau Baby is a series of German high-wing sports and training single-seat gliders. The glider was developed by Edmund Schneider, but many plants in Germany and, under license, abroad, including Schneider, Nord Aviation and Elliots of Newbury, were responsible for its production. The prototype flight took place in 1931, and serial production started in the same year. About 6,000 copies of this aircraft were created in its course, which makes it the most widely produced glider in the history of aviation! The Grunau Baby was developed as a scaled down version of another successful German glider: the Schneider ESG31. The new glider received significantly changed wings, a reinforced structure and a changed cockpit. It was also very simple in design and was resistant to landings in difficult terrain. Several development versions were created in the course of serial production, including: Baby II or Baby IIb (the basic school glider in Germany in the 1930s). instruction.pdf
