The British Royal Regiment of Artillery was established at the beginning of the 18th century, and at the end of this century, exactly in 1793, the Royal Horse Artillery was formed. Both of these types of artillery took part in the Napoleonic Wars (1799-1815). Very often you can hear the opinions, and it is accurate, that the overall British artillery of this period was very well trained, effective on the battlefield, and its soldiers were highly motivated. Very often they were also commanded by well-trained officers who - unlike in the infantry or cavalry - could not buy a position. The disadvantages most often include the relatively small number of British artillery. The basic tactical unit of British artillery was a battery consisting of 6 guns, divided into 3 divisions of two guns. For example, at the Battle of Waterloo, the British Army had 5 foot artillery batteries and 8 horse artillery batteries. Mainly used were 6-, 9- and 12-pounder cannons and howitzers. It is worth adding that the 6-pounder cannons were divided into "long" and "light" ones.
