SU-42 (518) 'POLSAT' - LOKOMOTYWA SPALINOWA

ZNTK 101D (another designation: SU42) is a series of standard-gauge diesel passenger locomotives, which were produced in the years 1975-1977 at the Fablok plant in Chrzanów and in the years 1999-2000 at ZNTK in Nowy Sącz. The service weight of a single locomotive is 71.3 tons, and its length with buffers is 14.24 m. The diameter of the wheels is 1100 mm, with the Bo'Bo axle system. The SU42 series locomotive was originally built (1975-1977) as a modernization of the SM42 locomotives, and the main change was to adapt them to heating passenger carriages. Originally, the main generator was used for this role, generating a current with a voltage of 500 V. However, apart from this difference, the SU42 and SM42 locomotives were structurally almost identical. In total, 39 SM42 locomotives were rebuilt in this way. In 1999-2000, the SP42 locomotives were modernized to the SU42 standard. The modernization consisted in replacing the WB-5 boiler with a power generator to heat the hauled passenger carriages. A total of 40 SP42 locomotives were rebuilt this way.
