The Type 205 units were West German classic diesel-electric fighter submarines that were launched between 1962 and 1968. In total, 13 ships of this class were built. A single unit of this type was 44.3 m long and 4.59 m wide, and the underwater displacement was about 450 tons. The maximum underwater speed was up to 17 knots. The armament consisted of eight 533 mm torpedo tubes. The Type 205 submarines were developed as an evolutionary development of the unsuccessful Type 201. Compared to their predecessors, they were slightly elongated, their hulls were made of a completely different steel, they also had a new engine layout and significantly changed electronic equipment. However, like Type 201, they were still designed to operate in the coastal zone - especially in the Baltic Sea and in the Danish straits. However, their main opponent was to be the surface ships of the Warsaw Pact. Unlike their predecessors (Type 201), they proved to be successful units that remained in service in the Bundesmarine until the 1990s. It is worth noting that it was responsible for the design of the Type 205 Ingenieurkontor Lübeck, and the units were built in a shipyard Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft based in Kiel. In addition, two ships of this (after some modifications) were commissioned by MW of Denmark, where they served until the beginning of the 21st century.
