The Grumman FF-1 was an American made on-board fighter from the interwar period. The drive was provided by a single engine in the basic version Wright R-1820 with 700 hp. The first flight of this machine took place in December 1931, and serial production continued in 1932-1934. During its course, 116 aircraft of this type were created. The deck armament consisted of two 7.62 mm Browning M1919 machine guns. The Grumman FF-1 was commissioned by the US Navy, which in the early 1930s sought to acquire a new on-board fighter with the best possible performance. It was the first aircraft produced for the Navy by the US Navy. Its design was based on the use of the most powerful possible power unit and a retractable undercarriage. Ultimately, the Grumman FF-1 turned out to be a machine with decent performance for that time, and above all, it was very easy to pilot and not very malfunctioning, which won the sympathy of the pilots flying it. Based on the FF-1 aircraft, a two-seater reconnaissance machine was created, designated SF-2. The Grumman FF-1 machines, however, began to be withdrawn from the line in 1936 and transferred to the training units, where they remained until 1940. The users of the Grumman FF-1 were the United States, Spain and Canada.
