The Supermarine S.6B was a British low-wing racing seaplane with a fixed float undercarriage from the interwar period. The drive was provided by a single Rolls-Royce R engine with 2350 hp. The prototype flight took place in 1931. The machine never entered mass production - only two were produced. The Supermarine S.6B was countered for a very specific purpose - to win the Schneider Trophy in 1931. Its design was largely based on the winner of this competition in 1929 - the Supermarine S.6. The changes mainly concerned "tweaking" the Rolls-Royce R engine, improving the already great aerodynamic properties and minor changes in the design of the floats. The Supermarine S.6B achieved its intended goal and, moreover, broke the international speed record shortly after the race for which it was built! The machine turned out to be important in the history of British aviation also because one of the best fighters of World War II - the Supermarine Spitfire - was constructed on its basis.
