IP-1

The Grigorowicz IP-1 was a Soviet fighter plane from the interwar period and World War II. The prototype flight took place in 1935, and the machine entered the line a year later. The plane featured a low wing configuration. It was 7.23 meters long with a wingspan of 10.97 meters. The drive was provided by a single Szwiecow M-25 engine with a capacity of 710 HP. The maximum speed was up to 410 km / h. The on-board armament consisted of two 20mm SzVAK cannons and six 7.62mm SzKAS machine guns. The Grigorowicz IP-1 was developed primarily with the aim of using the strongest possible on-board armament and designed to fight, above all, enemy bombers. The plane had an open pilot cockpit, but its structure was completely metal. However, already in the course of trials, the new plane proved to be problematic, and one of its main drawbacks was flight stability. Despite this, the Grigorovich IP-1 was ordered by the Soviet Air Force and introduced to the line as early as 1936. In the course of operation, the problems with the plane only intensified, and the machine was outclassed on almost every plane by the already manufactured Polikarpov I-16 fighter. Probably by 1940 all Grigorowicz IP-1 planes were withdrawn from service.
