The ZBD-90 (another designation: Type 90 or YW-535) is a modern Chinese tracked infantry fighting vehicle (IFV). The first prototypes of the vehicle were probably created in the 1980s, and around 1991 serial production started. The truck is powered by a single Deutz diesel engine BF8L 413F with 320 hp. The armament is a single machine gun Type 54 cal. 12.7 mm. The ZBD-90 was created by the Norinco concern, based on the Type 85 and Type 89 vehicles. It drew many elements from them - mainly the power unit - and it is also very similar to them externally. However, it is heavier and longer than its predecessors. It was also created primarily for export markets. ZBD-90 is able to take up to 13 landing soldiers in full equipment and 2 crew members. The protection is provided by armor made of steel plates that protects against small-caliber weapons with a caliber of up to 12.7 mm and against artillery fragments. The vehicle is also capable of negotiating water obstacles without any special preparation. Several variants of this vehicle were created in the course of series production. The basic version is the ZBD-90. Its development is an infantry fighting vehicle armed with a 25 or 30 mm cannon and a 7.62 mm machine gun (designation: Type 91). A self-propelled 122 mm mortar was also produced (designation: Type 91 122). At present, the only user of the ZBD-90 vehicles is Mjanmar.
