The Daihatsu Copen is a Japanese roadster sports car from the kei-car segment that was first presented to the public in 2002. Its serial production was carried out in the years 2002-2012 and has been carried out from 2014 to the present. The Copen model was designed and put into production to strengthen the position of the Daihatsu Motor Company in the kei-car segment and to take up a market battle with models from other Japanese companies in this segment. The car was designed for the domestic market from the very beginning. Initially, the car was powered by one of two engines with a capacity of 0.7 or 1.3 liters. Unfortunately, the smaller engine did not meet the exhaust emission standards, and the second disqualified the Copen model from the segment it was dedicated to. After refining the smaller engine and a short production hiatus, Daihatsu launched the Cohen generation II model with only a 0.7 liter engine. Both generations were offered as a 2-door roadster only.
