The GAZ-63 is a Soviet military universal truck of the post-war period. The first copies of this vehicle appeared in 1948, and serial production continued in 1948-1968. It took place at the plant in the city of Gorky, and about 470,000 cars of this type were produced during it. The vehicle was powered by a 70 HP 6-cylinder GAZ-51 engine. The design of the GAZ-63 truck was largely based on the civilian GAZ-51 car. The same engine and drive train were kept, but the structure of the vehicle was strengthened, the shape of the engine compartment and the driver's cabin were changed. The vehicle also had all-wheel drive (4x4). Based on the GAZ-63, the BTR-40 armored personnel carrier was developed. However, the successor of this truck in the Soviet Army turned out to be a very successful GAZ-66 with much better off-road characteristics and improved reliability.
