The McDonnell Douglas F-101 Voodoo is a supersonic fighter with a full metal structure and a twin engine propulsion. Initially, the F-101 was planned to be used as a cover for penetration fighter (long-range) strategic bombers, but over time they began to be used as nuclear-powered bombing, interceptor and reconnaissance fighters. The basis for the F-101 prototype was the XP-88, which was flown on October 20, 1946, but the first version of the F-101 was flown on September 29, 1954. It had new wings, a Pratt-Whitney J57-P-53 engine and a T-shaped horizontal tail. It came to linear units in 1957. The most widely used versions of the F-101 are the F101A, used as a bombing fighter armed with tactical nuclear weapons, and the two-seater F101B, used as an interceptor. This version was one of the first USAAF aircraft to use an AIM-4 Falcon air-to-air missile. It was also able to carry AIR-2 Genie unguided air-to-air missiles with a nuclear warhead. There were also reconnaissance and reconnaissance versions (including RF-101C and RF-101A), which were the only ones to take part in the Vietnam War. In the USAAF, the F-101s were withdrawn from line service in 1972. The F-101 was used by the US, Canadian and Taiwanese air forces. In total, 807 units of this machine were built. Technical data: Maximum speed: 1825 km / h, maximum ceiling 17800 m, maximum range: 2450 km, armament: fixed - 4 20mm M39 cannons, suspended - up to 1700 kg of cargo.
